Rxke is right. Every two years Mars approaches near Earth. And magically, near the 26th of August, it is at its closest.  big_smile

My birthday is August 26th. Go figure.  big_smile

But it only appears brighter (like a small red dot), nothing like the Moon.

The August 26th 2003 was a BIG red dot, though... Easily visible in a city, even.

Nearly got caught howling at it, one night!  lol
