Re: NASA to announce 10th planet finding today (monday

"By combining all available data, Brown estimates the size at about halfway between that of Pluto and Quaoar, the planetoid discovered by the same team in 2002."

The astronomy authority (some astronomers got together to create an organization to make decisions on this stuff) has said that Quaoar is not a planet, it's too small. In fact, they said that if Pluto were discovered today they probably wouldn't call that a planet either. As a comparison, Earth is 12,756.28km in diameter, Mars is 6,794.4km, Mercury is 4,879.4, Luna (Earth's moon) is 3,474.8km, Pluto is 2,274km, and Charon (Pluto's moon) is 1,172km, and Quaoar is about 1,250km diameter.
