TAO Observatory in Japan - Highest on Earth in 2024

This topic is offered for NewMars members who might wish to report on, or comment upon, the new observatory placed in operation in Japan recently.  The observatory is located at the top of a mountain, and is is reported to be at the highest elevation of any observatory on Earth.

The groundbreaking features of TAO, including remote operation, highly sensitive instruments, and its high-altitude environment, will inspire future observatory designs. As current and future astronomers continue to unlock the universe’s secrets with TAO, their discoveries will undoubtedly challenge our current understanding and pave the way for even more incredible advancements in astronomical observation.

Telescopes come to mind as a category for the many types and what they are observing.

Thank you for your comment about my choice of the Observatory topic ... the reason is there are multiple telescopes at the site, and none are Earth record setting.  It is the observatory itself that is the highest in the world, in 2024.

The site was chosen to facilitate Infrared observations, so that is the primary focus of the facility.;

I know your time is limited, but if you ever do have time to read the article, I think there is a chance you might find the report interesting.
