At 0° F flesh freezes in minutes. At -50° F flesh freezes in seconds.

Psychrophiles can grow in temperatures as low as 32° F.

Engineering requirements
The simplest means of meeting these temperature conditions is to maintain them within an environmentally controlled structure. Inhabited structures must be heated. Good insulation helps conserve energy.
