Re: Crime & civic responsibility

I don't mind the sword-rattling and the penis-waving so much, but I still think that the issue with regard to societies reaction to crime has to be one of proportion.

One problem I have with the discussion/debate is that the most rabid participants are crime victims.  Understandable.  But the problem is that they don't speak on behalf of all crime victims, only for themselves and those that also participate.

Most crime doesn't even get reported.  Most criminals get away with what they do almost all the time.   Only the most extreme and lurid examples of crime are being discussed, and the debate is being driven by the angry minority.

The end result is that the whole discussions spirals endlessly, and to no constructive purpose.

I like alternatives to crime, such as requiring pregnant drug addicts to have abortions and/or sterilization in order to qualify for reduced sentences.

I like that Sherrif in Arizona that puts petty criminals in a tent camp surrounded by barbed wire out in the desert, and feeds them baloney and water.

I also like "COPS" (and similar) TV shows, and think they should be broadcast in Public Schools so as to prevent any delusional ideas among young people from "taking seed" as to how much sympathy the "underprivleged" deserve.  Furthermore, I think the timelines of the featured criminals should be required study and a pre-requisite for graduation.

I think that, for the most part, most crime comes about as an indirect result of illegal narcotics trade, and would support mandatory and fast-tracked executions for anyone caught with more than a certain amount.  This would also include assasinating the inhabitants of foreign countries, and their leaders.

I think that the gangs that traffic in narcotics here in the United States should be immediately classified as "Terrorist Organizations" than become subject to whatever Law Enforement options that would entail, to include imprisonment with limited constitutional protections.

I think that it should be a Capitol Crime (meaning punishable by death) for any governmental official or employee (to include the dog catcher and the garbage man) to participate in the drug trade.

Re: Crime & civic responsibility

Pit bulls are frequently brutalized by their owners to behave the way they do.  We have some family members who own pit bulls that they raised from birth, and their dogs behave the same as any other breed of dog because they're raised and treated like family pets, rather than attack / fight / guard dogs.  Any dog, regardless of size or strength, can and will behave aggressively if it's treated poorly.  From experience, smaller dogs are more prone to biting people than larger ones, but the larger ones can obviously do more damage if they do decide to bite someone.  That said, anyone armed with a kitchen knife / baseball bat / hammer / rock can kill pretty much any dog, regardless of size.

I'm not that big, but at 5'10" and 180 pounds, I've yet to encounter a dog so large or strong that I couldn't simply grab it just behind its jaws and take it straight to the ground and hold it there, if need be.  Every so often I have to do this to get a leash on a stray dog.  Whenever dogs run off in our neighborhood, my wife and I capture them until their owners can come get them.  I've had a couple try to bite me, but they weren't fast enough or strong enough, and eventually gave up after it was apparent that I wasn't going to hurt them.  That said, I can see how a woman or a child would be vulnerable to an aggressive dog.

We have a German Shepherd and Siberian Husky.  Every so often, we or our dogs are attacked by other dogs while we're out walking, but they've done a pretty good job of standing their ground thus far.  Maybe 3 or 4 of those dogs were what I'd call very aggressive or very determined.  People do have some good-sized dogs around here, but again, family pets not attack dogs, thankfully.

Most recently, I had to capture my nextdoor neighbor's dogs.  One is a bulldog or pit bull, the other a Malinois.  The bull dog or pit bull was very friendly and walked right up to me wagging his tail, the Malinois, much like my own Shepherd, not so friendly.  The Malinois tried to bite me a few times but wasn't fast enough.  My wife and I chased after him until he gave up, then she put a leash on him, I took him for a walk, gave him some food and water until his owners returned, and he was fine after that.

Crimes of Antarctica are relatively rare, isolation and boredom affect certain people there negatively and may lead to crime. Alcoholism is a known problem on the continent, and has led to fights and indecent exposure. Other types of crimes that have occurred in Antarctica include illicit drug use, torturing and killing wildlife, racing motorbikes through environmentally sensitive areas, assault with a deadly weapon, attempted murder, and arson. Sexual harassment also has been reported. Robberies are rare and unlikely in Antarctica because people entering cannot bring many belongings onto the continent, and because there is very little use for money. Under the 1959 Antarctic Treaty, ratified by 53 nations, persons accused of a crime in Antarctica are subject to punishment by their own country.
At McMurdo Station, a fight occurred between two workers in the kitchen. One worker attacked the other with a hammer. Another cook tried to break up the fight and was also injured. The two victims were Tony Beyer and Joe Stermer. Both of them required stitches. FBI agents from the United States were sent to McMurdo Station to investigate and make an arrest. The suspect was flown to Honolulu, Hawaii, where he faced charges of four counts of assault with a dangerous weapon. He pleaded not guilty. No further information was publicly available.

The Vostok Station, then a Soviet research station in Princess Elizabeth Land, was the scene of a fight between two scientists over a game of chess. When one of them lost the game, he became so enraged that he attacked the other with an ice axe. According to some sources, it was a murder, though other sources say that the attack was not fatal. After a KGB investigation, chess games were banned at Soviet/Russian Antarctic stations by the Antarctic Soviet.

Hopefully Mars would get some of the best of the best and not ever have the violent idiots who have been a plague on humanity

In other threads there were discussions on penal colonies, 'capital punishment' and mars governance, RobertDyck told stories of people who broke into homes and spent time in a federal penitentiary another where rumors a 'Husband' took out life insurance on a wife and child and she took a shotgun and killed a possibly paid homeless attacker who came into the house, she shot him dead and the court ruled it was self-defense.

Judge denies bond for all but 1 of 23 arrested for attack at planned police training facility
https://www.yahoo.com/news/judge-denies … 15797.html

Nearly two dozen people accused of coordinating a violent attack on police officers defending the proposed site of an Atlanta police training facility will remain in jail after a judge denied them bond.

Channel 2′s Michael Seiden was inside the courtroom as attorneys for the defendants argued that they be released.

The 23 defendants charged with domestic terrorism were looking to get out of jail and go home, but the judge didn’t feel comfortable releasing everyone, especially since only two of them have ties to Georgia.

The judge listened to their lawyers for most of the afternoon. The mother of one 26-year-old man from Connecticut even testified on her son’s behalf when the judge asked if she would make sure he gets back to court.

“I will accompany him myself,” Kate Early said, promising that her son was not at risk of committing a crime if he’s granted bond.

Pete Johnson, the Chief Assistant District Attorney in DeKalb County, laid out why the group should remain in jail.

“You had to make a concerted effort to go there,” Johnson said. “This group changed their clothing into all black out clothing. They had shields. They had bags of rocks. They had fireworks. They had Molotov cocktails.”

The judge ended up siding with prosecutors, denying bond for all but one of the people charged with domestic terrorism.

Thomas Jurgens, a staff attorney for the Southern Poverty Law Center, was granted a $5,000 bond after prosecutors determined that he was only there as an observer and not a participant in the violence.

“Given the fact that he is a bared attorney, his claim at this point, he’s a legal observer I can’t stand here and say there’s evidence he threw something,” the judge said.

Maybe I will quote events at the South Pole again to try to see what problems could one day happen on Mars.

I'm still not sure about drugs or booze on Mars, it could one day lead to Drug Addiction or Alcoholism, Stress, Mental illness but controlling such things could be impossible once a colony expands.

However some people say smoking something or having a beer helps them 'unwind' and enjoy life.

The victims were Tony Beyer and Joe Stermer, according to Wisneski’s announcement, which The Associated Press obtained from sources at McMurdo.

“Both victims required stitches, but should recover fully,” Wisneski said.

The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada’s observatory in Hamilton, Ontario was vandalized earlier this month, with at least $100,000 in damage to equipment and facilities.

“It appears to be a failed robbery turned utter vandalism,” said the group’s president Andy Blanchard. “It looked like they wanted to destroy everything.”

Robbery and Mass shootings and riots are unlikely in a first space colony but as a population increases so will social issues. At the South Pole you could have a culture similar to what will happen on Mars, people might have past issues, trauma, drug use in the past, addict like cigarettes can make people cranky, while crime in Antarctica is rare, being alone and isolation and boredom affect certain people there negatively and may lead to crime Alcoholism another issues or clashes of personality types.

The incident was just the latest brazen robbery at a clothing store in the city.

Footage from the scene showed the chaos within the store as the thieves darted between aisles and smashed display cases.

The crooks knocked over shelves and mannequins before frantically grabbing whatever they could carry while store employees looked on helplessly.

After grabbing between $60,000 and $100,000 worth of goods, the crew fled in several cars, including a BMW and a Lexus, cops said.

Re: Crime & civic responsibility

Maybe an issue of 'Free Speech' maybe 'Crime' in NYC the Cops are in a physical push and shove fight, sparring with and arresting Palestine protesters.

https://twitter.com/rawsalerts/status/1 … 0316931093

The NYPD are making Multiple Arrests on Pro-Palestine Protesters as they Occupy Streets

After the terrorist attacks and kidnappings and 2023 Israel–Hamas war the event has now sparked protests, demonstrations, street fights and vigils around the world.

Pro-Palestinian rallies occurred in major cities across Canada

In Caracas, Venezuela the protestors rallied to show solidarity with Palestine

In Europe, public support for Palestinian islamic resistance uprising 'rights' was somewhat criminalized, with countries such as France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Hungary restricting pro-Palestinian political speech.

Protesters in Sri Lanka a country taken by economic collapse held signs that read "Palestine you will never walk alone".

In Norway 100 pro-Palestine demonstrators protested outside the Israeli embassy in Oslo shouting "Allahu akbar" claiming that the terroristic pedophile Arabia Moongod is superior to the God of other cultures.

In Serbia pro-Palestinian protests were organized.

Jewish Israeli citizens in Israel have also joined Arab Palestine Gaza politics and participated in public protests of war policies

Afghanistan unconcerned with their own issues instead some pro-ISIS pro-Al-Qaeda types took to streets to express support for Palestine

People in Albania called for an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestine

I seen news pop up in feeds about this social media idiots going around Thailand, India, Japan and doing stupid stuff on camera for social media clicks. It seems the legal system will catch up with them.

Jails in Asia do not seem as Liberal and Easy-Going as the Western prison system has become

They keep them busy with an almost worse than military like punishing discipline, people who get out of the jail never want to go back.

Re: Crime & civic responsibility

For Mars_B4_Moon ... It you find that any specific word is causing the Internal Server Error, please post the words (separate letters with spaces) in Housekeeping.

We have NO knowledge of filtering of any kind in the FluxBB software, and neither MySQL or Apache ** should ** be engaged in filtering.

That said, at this point, we have NO idea what is causing the errors, but while we wait for conversion to a new system, we are going to have to put up with whatever is causing this.

My guess is that you will find the word that causes a problem one day will be accepted another.

I just read this topic from the top, starting with RobertDyck's report of four burglaries and the feckless sounding advice from his local police force.

kbd512's report of dealing with dogs reveals that he has unusual strength and agility, plus courage and determination. I've been attacked by a neighbor's dog trying to protect the human who was giving him a walk. I took a nip, but fortunately the walker collected the dog.  I was reasonably fit at the time, but the thought of attempting to reach over the dog's open mouth to secure it's neck did not occur to me. I ** did ** reflect upon my lack of a suitable tool at hand. I was doing yard work, and might have had a rake, but as I recall the incident, the rake was not close by when the attack occurred.

Thankfully the owner of the dog relocated the animal, and no further incidents occurred.

I've experienced having a burglar in the home, and I did not have a weapon, as I was returning from a local trip.  The burglar did end up doing time, but it was because the local police did a terrific job of collecting evidence, and just waiting for the next opportunity.

I deliberately do not own a weapon, because I know how to use one, and I also know I'd have used it if I'd had one.  That's a choice I've made, based upon analysis of my automatic responses to situations like that one.

The ICC is a court of last resort.  It will not act if a case is investigated or prosecuted by a national judicial system unless the national proceedings are not genuine, for example if formal proceedings were undertaken solely to shield a person from criminal responsibility.  In addition, the ICC only tries those accused of the gravest crimes.
