Welcome to First Words! If you're one of the people we invited to submit an entry, we're glad you visited. Find out more about First Words, and check out the categories that you can submit your entry in. To submit your entry, please email the address we supplied to you in our letter or email. We're not fond of sending out form mails, but really there aren't that many different ways of saying the same thing. Despite that, hopefully you'll have noticed that your letter or email was customised for you in some way. Thanks!

(And if you got one of the KSR 'Mars Trilogy' emails, well, that was a mistake, sorry. But hey, it was really late and we hope you'll find it in our hearts to forgive us this minor error.)

For everyone else: This is the pre-launch version of the website, so while most static content is online, you'll notice that one or two pages are not yet accessible or working properly. The website will officially launch on October 4th, at the beginning of World Space Week. For now you'll be able to find out information about First Words, and also browse through the Famous First Words page as entries from the celebrities and other prominent world figures we've contacted begins to arrive. You can of course also start working on your own entries so they're ready to be submitted on October 4th!

We aren't expecting many people to visit the website until the official launch, considering that we'll be concentrating all of our publicity efforts for the launch. However, it's inevitable that some people will visit (we are giving the URL out to those we've invited to enter, for example), so we'd like to ask you to not make a big deal of the website just yet - no telling the media or posting to Slashdot, Metafilter, Fark, Kuro5hin, that sort of thing. Because lots of little splashes do not make a big splash (well, okay, they do, but I'm not a physicist).

I might be a lone voice in the wilderness. But the Most Humorous catagory can be viewed in either of two ways. The most obvious: What the speaker thinks is funny. The most humorous by shear numbers: What the rest of the expedition/work party/world population thinks is funny.
